Our Mission and Goals

KORTC is a 501c(3) community organization committed to the maintenance and development of outdoor recreation opportunities, creating Outdoor Recreation and Education Programs for all ages, and invigorating Stewardship and health in our Community.

Our Goals:
  • Create Outdoor Programs for Youth and Adults.

    • Youth Education and Adventure programs will teach outdoor skills and provide guided adventures ranging from summer day camp trips like day hikes, fishing, kayaking, to multiday backpacking trips. These programs will inspire the will to endeavor and face challenge, cultivate resiliency and deeply rooted self-confidence, and the sense of responsibility and appreciation for our lands.

    • Adult Adventure programs will accommodate all levels of participation, with programs designed to promote fitness, and programs designed to facilitate challenging adventures.

  • The purchase of high-quality outdoor equipment to provide for our youth and adult programs. This will increase access to outdoor recreation for many youth and adults in our community.

  • Support the establishment of our Trail Maintenance Program. This means acquiring insurance, bonding, tools and equipment. KORTC would be able to provide "rapid response" in the event of any unsafe trail conditions and carry out trail improvement projects in a timely manner. This program will also provide a reliable and long term source of funding for KORTC.

  • Have a direct positive impact on both physical and mental health in Ketchikan.

  • Lay the foundation for a local based outdoor industry. For this to become a reality we must not only begin to maintain our existing outdoor recreation opportunities but develop greater opportunities which capture the adventure of Alaska.

  • Develop world-class Outdoor Recreation opportunities for our community. We will collaborate with both State and Federal Agencies to provide new opportunities that will help inspire our community to go outside more.
