Who We Are
KORTC is a nonprofit organization committed to the maintenance, development and facilitation of outdoor recreation opportunities. We bring outdoor education and adventure programs for both youth and adults. Among our goals is invigorating Stewardship and fitness in our Community through outdoor recreation.
We are currently developing a partnership with the USFS and working relationships with KGB to allow KORTC to contribute focused and sustained effort to maintain the trails and outdoor facilities we currently enjoy.

KORTC is also developing outdoor recreation programs for 2024 for both youth and adult participants. Our youth programs will focus on outdoor skills, adventure, safety, health and fitness. The adult programs will include opportunities for those new to outdoor recreation and experienced adventurers a like with both fitness and adventure based programs. We want to provide opportunities for everyone in Ketchikan to get out more and go further than before.

KORTC has been leading group hikes and cycling in June of 2023, and continues to schedule outdoor activities into fall and winter. Our goal is to bring year-round opportunities to Ketchikan for exciting outdoor adventures, education, and stewardship.

Anna Sherman
Administrative Director, Board Member
Anna moved to beautiful Ketchikan 5 years ago trading in the painted deserts and sun of New Mexico. A background in Outdoor and Community Recreation, Anna comes with knowledge working with nonprofits and outdoor education. If you asked what her favorite trail is, she would tell you it would be a toss up between Perseverance and Dude but quotes, "all trails are perfect...they are inviting, inclusive and beneficial to all". A passion for hiking, trail maintenance and education, Anna was ecstatic to help with KORTC as it resurfaced in 2022 and is excited to keep the momentum going today.

Ben Holzmeister
Board Member
Ben was born in Ketchikan and spent much of his youth in Southeast Alaska before moving to Colorado. There Ben managed a family farm for over a decade seeing to the day-to-day and seasonal demands of running a successful farm.
But love of the temperate, wet, and green rainforest of southeast Alaska brought Ben and his family back for good in 2015. Ben brings a wealth of management, oversight and logistical experience to the KORTC Board. Ben spends much of his time exploring Ketchikan with his family, fishing our local waters, and hunting amongst the muskeg. On the trail Ben prizes the summit and vistas of Dude mt most. Ben was drawn to KORTC to engage with the community on a more meaningful level and to help increase access to this wonderful piece of the world we all live in.
